PolyCheck Chrome

Description

PolyCheck Chrome is a durable polyester tamper-evident label with a mirror finish. Like the rest of the PolyCheck range it is built in two parts, with an adhesive that leaves a distinctive checkerboard pattern behind when the label is removed or interfered with.

What sets Chrome apart is purely the face. It is the most visually assertive label in the range — reflective, deliberate, and hard to overlook on a piece of equipment.

Chrome is not a barcode label

Worth stating before anything else, because it determines whether this is the right product for you at all.

PolyCheck Chrome should not be used with barcodes. The high reflective surface interferes with scanners, and a barcode printed on it will read unreliably or not at all — particularly under direct overhead lighting, at an angle, or with a phone camera.

If your asset register depends on scanning, specify PolyCheck Platinum instead. It offers the same two-part checkerboard tamper evidence in a metallic face that can carry barcodes. For scanning above all else, PolyAsset White gives the strongest contrast, though without tamper evidence.

What Chrome is actually for

Chrome earns its place where the label is read by people rather than machines, and where being noticed is part of the point.

Deterrence is the clearest case. A conspicuous mirror-finish security label announces that an item is identified and monitored, which changes the calculation for anyone considering moving it. Equipment carrying obvious identification is harder to dispose of quietly.

Appearance is the second. On instrumentation, display equipment, cabinetry and client-facing hardware, a chrome label reads as a manufacturer’s plate rather than an afterthought. It is the finish to choose when the tag is part of how the equipment presents.

It also works well as a seal on enclosures and panels, where the job is to show at a glance whether something has been opened, and no scanning is involved.

Numbering without barcodes

Chrome can carry human-readable serialized numbering, custom text and your logo. Plenty of asset programmes run perfectly well on printed numbers alone, particularly where the population is small enough to reconcile by eye or where scanning happens from a separate white label applied elsewhere on the asset.

That two-label approach is worth considering for high-value equipment: a chrome seal where it will be seen, and a scannable white tag where the auditor needs it.
