PolyBreak White Destructible

Description

Try to lift a PolyBreak label and it fragments. The face stock is a destructible white semi-gloss polyester carrying a very aggressive solvent-based adhesive, and the combination is engineered so the label fails before the bond does. What comes away is pieces, not a label.

That single behaviour is the whole reason to specify it. A tag that cannot survive removal cannot be moved between assets, which means the identifier on the equipment and the record in your register stay bound together.

The problem PolyBreak actually solves

Asset registers rarely fail because a label fell off. They fail because a label ended up on the wrong item — a tag moved from a decommissioned machine onto an untagged one, a laptop swapped between departments with the tag transferred to keep the paperwork tidy, an asset written off on paper while the physical item stayed in service under a different number.

Once that happens the register is quietly wrong, and it usually stays wrong until an audit finds a discrepancy nobody can explain. A destructible label removes the possibility. There is no intact tag to transfer.

Where it earns its place

Specify PolyBreak for assets that leave the building or change hands: portable IT equipment, tools, test instruments, loaned or leased equipment, and anything moving between sites or departments. It suits high-turnover populations where the register is reconciled regularly and an unexplained tag is a real cost.

It is also worth considering wherever theft deterrence matters. A tag that visibly destroys itself is harder to remove cleanly, and equipment carrying obvious identification is less attractive to move on.

Application is one-shot — plan for it

The property that makes PolyBreak useful also makes it unforgiving. A label applied crooked, applied to the wrong item, or applied to a dirty surface cannot be lifted and repositioned. It will come apart, and you will need a fresh label.

Two practical consequences. Clean and dry the surface before application rather than after a failure. And order a working margin above your asset count — spoiled applications are normal with destructible stock, and a short reorder costs more per unit than the original overage.

Barcodes and scanning

The white semi-gloss face gives a barcode strong contrast, so PolyBreak scans as readily as a standard white asset label. Numbering, barcodes, custom text and your logo can all be printed on it, and layout proofs are emailed for approval before production.

PolyBreak, PolyVoid or PolyCheck?

All three make removal apparent. They differ in what they leave behind, and the right choice depends on what you need to prove afterwards.

PolyBreak destroys the label. You are left with fragments and the knowledge that a tag was removed — the strongest deterrent, and the simplest to explain to staff.

PolyVoid leaves the word VOID on both the equipment and the label. Useful when you need visible evidence on the asset itself, months later, at inspection.

PolyCheck is a two-part construction leaving a distinctive checkerboard pattern when tampered with or removed.

If removal is not a realistic risk for your assets, the standard PolyAsset White is the cheaper and more forgiving specification.

Request samples and test the removal behaviour yourself on a scrap surface before committing to a full run. It is the fastest way to confirm the tag does what your risk assessment needs it to do.
