LABEL DESIGN ADVICE
Telephone and e-mail! We always contact
customers by telephone/e-mail or fax before producing labels. This is to ensure
that they receive labels appropriate to their needs. We can
e-mail graphic images of the labels as "proofs" for approval!
We supply customers throughout the USA and internationally
from (Eastern
Time Zone) and therefore use a "voice mail" system or e-mail for inquiries.
Design Considerations
- Property of: This phrase is not necessary
in most cases, the fact that your company's name is on the label and the label
is on your property shows ownership!
- Length of "text" lines - The more text
you put on a line the smaller the font size has to be for everything to fit.
Depending upon the number of lines required we can use larger and bolder type
fonts for shorter text!
- Font Style - Arial and Times New Roman
are the most popular fonts chosen but we do have a wide range of font or type
styles available. If you do have a specific font preferred for your company name
please let us know "in the comments box" and we will use the closest possible
style. Sometimes we use a "special" font such as arial narrow or swiss expanded
to make text balance better on the labels.
- Fonts -San-serif fonts such as Arial and Tahoma are more legible
than serif fonts.
- Serial Numbers - Unless otherwise
directed by our customers we generally use the largest size of numbers that are
appropriate for the specific label design.
- Human Readable Barcode - Serialized
barcodes can have the same sequence of letters and numbers printed below the
barcode in "human readable" text. Obviously this takes up more room but many
customers like this get ready for setting up a barcode system in the future.
- Logos or Graphics - We often incorporate
company logos onto the labels where space permits. They can be on the top or
side of the label. While we can sometimes "lift" graphics from a web if you can
provide a true black and white graphic file it will help get the best
result.
- Keep it Simple - The most attractive and
functional labels are usually the simplest and most balanced in appearance.
Excessive text requires the use of small sized fonts and this reduces
readability as well as visual appeal. If you are using a "human readable
barcode" then one line of text at the top (Company identification) and a smaller
line at the bottom is all you can expect unless you want to use one side of the
label for a small logo!
- Portable Property - If some of the labels
are intended for use on smaller valuable items such as laptops, PDA's etc., we
suggest having at least some of the labels printed with a telephone #, e-mail or
web address. Just put a comment in the comment box.
- Asset Tracking Systems - Just ask and we
might have the right solution for you.
