Narrow Bar
The thinner of the two bars in binary level barcode.

NON PLU
This refers to products, often fresh food products, where the price is not
looked up by the register/computer at the time of sale but rather, the
price is obtained directly from the bar code.

Number System Code
The first digit of UPC, is called number system
(NS) code.

code for source marking of
foods and sundries, administered by UCC.
For the product exported to U.S. must have
its own UPC maker code in this NS,
and to be source marked. |

NON-PLU attached to
instore marking
like measured-out products, etc. |

Administered by FDA (Food and Drug Administration).
Used for NCD (National Drug Code) and
HIR (Health Related Item Code). |

source marked. |

This is used for coupons. |
