Bar Code
An arrangement of bars and spaces on a label, stamped, embossed onto
an item or container that identifies the item and sometimes its quantity.
A variety of fixed and variable length code schemes are used by industries
and standards bodies to enable automatic interpretation by collection systems
and avoid manual input. This is refered to as automatic recognition which
enables input of alphabetic, numeric, marks and symbols, etc.
digitally into the computer.
Binary
Denoting a numbering system to base 2 in which numbers are expressed as combinations
of the digits 0 and 1, with positional weighting based on powers of 2. In
computing these can be represented electrically by 'off' and 'on' respectively,
or in machine-readable symbols by narrow and wide elements or by the absence
or presence of a bar module.
Binary Level
A certian type of bar code. Bar widths consist of
2 types: a narrow bar
and a wide bar.
(Also see Multi-level)
BWR
Bar Width Reduction. The amount by which the bar width is narrowed to
compensate for print gain.
